I feel fortunate to have studied at Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP). My academic vocation led me to pursue a master’s degree at the University of Pennsylvania (LL.M.), in order to approach professional issues from the perspective of a different legal system.
I earned a Doctorate in Law at my alma mater, PUCP. My thesis, the estoppel doctrine in the contractual world addresses a legally relevant issue that helps to understand why human conduct, what we do every day, is so important when resolving a case.
I have been a professor for more than 25 years in the field of Civil and Contract Law, and one of the most beautiful, significant and relevant stages of my professional life was serving as Dean of the Law School of Universidad del Pacífico, in Lima.
Now in Madrid I have the privilege of being part of Carlos III University of Madrid as a professor of the Commercial Law Department. From 2023 to 2025 I prepared the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid team for the International Arbitration Competition, obtaining exceptional results.
During my academic life I have participated in a wide variety of projects that have enriched my time in the classroom. Two of the most emblematic ones:
I am a member of the Council of the ICC Institute of World Business Law, an international advisory body that brings together leading experts in international trade law and arbitration.
The ICC Institute Council plays a key role in the academic and practical orientation of its activities, including conferences, publications and professional development programs.
Being part of this group is an honor and an opportunity to contribute to the advancement of international law from a collaborative, rigorous and multidisciplinary perspective.
This year again I had the honor of preparing the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid undergraduate team, together with Ana Escobar Palomino, María Eugenia Gómez García and Aitor Rodríguez Rincón. The effort and dedication allowed us to obtain extraordinary results: first place in the oral phase and the Albert H. Kritzer Award for the best on-demand memorial.
I am especially proud of the initiative of Universidad del Pacífico #ExplotaciónHumana, a research conducted on the crime of human trafficking, in which through the exhibition of different artistic pieces, we made a tour of infographic, photographic and video proposals to raise public awareness about the issue of human trafficking in Peru, mainly focused on sexual and labor exploitation.
Cinema makes us more lucid, more suspicious and aware of the world around us and its imperfections. Law is much more than applying rules and cannot be oblivious to this.
That motivated me to edit ‘El Derecho va al Cine’, a collective work in which several authors wrote articles relating cinema and law.
Can films transform reality into fiction and fiction into reality? Is film a source for learning law and for having better lawyers? Can films educate? The work seeks the answer to these questions.
I was fortunate enough to prepare the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid undergraduate team for MOOT Madrid – in its 2023 and 2024 editions – making it to the finalists of the international competition during those two consecutive years.
Together with Corte Internacional de Arbitraje de Madrid and CEIA Mujeres del Club Español e Iberoamericano de Arbitraje, I participated in the creation of Espacio ARTbitral, with the aim of bringing the arbitration community together to exchange ideas on how art can impact our practice.
