Only then can we be more lucid, more attentive, and more aware of the world around us. In arbitration, this means making parties’s lives easier: untangling knots. The law does not exist to entangle us in abstractions and procedures where form prevails over substance, but to confront problems and resolve them. Agreed rules must be honored, the parties must be heard and treated equally, and the process must be predictable — only then can we arrive at the truth of the specific case. I have always sought this balance throughout my career, first advising clients at law firms and now as an arbitrator and legal expert.

I have served in more than 180 arbitration proceedings, both domestic and international, before the ICC International Court of Arbitration, the Mexico Arbitration Center, the Lima Chamber of Commerce Arbitration Center, AMCHAM Peru, the Madrid International Arbitration Center, and the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP) Arbitration Center. I have acted as tribunal chair or sole arbitrator in more than half of cases, and as co-arbitrator in the rest; roughly 60% of the matters I have handled involve contractual, commercial, and corporate issues, while the remaining 40% involve State contracts, public-private partnerships, and public procurement. As a legal expert, I prepare reports on the application of Peruvian law in arbitration proceedings, with a focus on contractual obligations and remedies.

I hold a Doctorate in Law from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (2022) and an LL.M. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School (2000). I am a professor in the Department of Commercial Law at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, a member of the Council of the ICC Institute of World Business Law, and vice president of CEIA Mujeres, an initiative of the Club Español e Iberoamericano de Arbitraje (CEIA).
